Packaging Buyer

One of the world’s leading manufacturers of food products is currently looking to recruit an experienced Packaging Buyer. Operating globally, the company develop, manufacture and sell Food Ingredients, including dry seasonings, sauces and coatings systems, and supply a broad portfolio of major food manufacturers.

This is an exciting to join a dynamic market leader. Joining the European Purchasing Team at the company’s Somercotes facility in Derbyshire, your role as Packaging Buyer will involve:

- Analysing and evaluating packaging bids to determine optimum value, selecting suppliers and fit for purpose materials as appropriate
- Carrying out robust supplier selection process and develop/collaborate with those most suitable to the company’s needs
- Providing technical packaging knowledge to support successful solutions to the customer base
- Ownership of and responsibility for the introduction and commercialisation of new packaging into the business, working closely with Sales, R+D, Operations and Engineering
- Negotiating short and long-term contracts as appropriate to ensure optimum costs and reliable supply service

The role will also have some additional responsibilities on Food Ingredient categories.

The ideal candidate for the position will be educated to degree level and preferably possess the CIPS qualification, with 3 to 5 years relevant packaging based Purchasing experience, preferably in a food based manufacturing environment. Printed Flexible packaging experience is desirable.

You will be a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, at ease liaising with all levels of the business. You will possess proven negotiation skills, as well as the ability to make decisions and take the initiative. You will also be an organised individual with strong administrative skills and a keen eye for detail.
