Senior Support Worker

Salary: £14,500 – £15,500
Fixed term role for 12 weeks – with a view to becoming permanent
A not for profit organisation based in Stoke on Trent are recruiting for a Senior Care and Support Worker for their day service for elderly people with dementia care needs.
You will lead the care team in their day to day duties within the day care setting including providing activities for service users, enabling them to develop and promoting their independence.
There are many duties involved in the role of an Administrative Officer including:
•Assist the Day Service and Outreach Co-ordinators in taking new referrals, carrying out initial assessments and formulating care packages for service users. Work with service users and their families / carers to formulate a person centred plan.
•Attend regular care plan reviews, as required. Build and maintain professional working relationships with families and carers and other relevant professionals as appropriate.
•Assist the Day Service and Outreach Co-ordinators in carrying out risk assessments and health and safety checks for service users, equipment, tasks and activities. Ensure that all risks are clearly identified, documented in service users care plan and communicated to support staff.
•Provide hands on care and support to service users on a day to day basis, encouraging them to become more independent and self-sufficient by such actions as developing life skills, supporting social activities and attending medical appointments.
•Assist the Day Service and Outreach Co-ordinators with the provision of a variety of activities and interests for service users which are: enabling, promote independence
•Assist with the induction and ongoing training of support staff, volunteers and trainees providing ongoing supervision
•Participate in regular team meetings with support staff and therapists to promote and maintain effective communication and support, to promote best practice and to refresh on organisational policies and procedures.
You will be an experienced carer or support worker with knowledge of dementia care. You will ideally have team leader experience and be qualified to NVQ Level 3. Due to the nature of the role you will need to be a car driver with access to your own vehicle.
