3 New Year's Resolutions I'll Be Sticking to This Year

Are you feeling the January blues? Cheer up! The new year is full of possibility. Especially if you stick to those new year's resolutions! Here are mine!

June 20, 2023

Happy January! Hope you had a great break (those of you who were off over Christmas).

I don’t know about you, but getting back to work yesterday was certainly a shock to the system.

But I refuse to be a negative Nelly.

The New Year brings with it fresh new opportunities to seize the day and better myself. (Yep, “new year new me” is so cliché I know…)

And while I have some personal goals like eating healthier etc. (which I’ll probably break) I’ve also come up with some work-based resolutions too.

Here they are:

1. Take a time out.

I have to admit, I love my job. But unfortunately, that passion can sometimes encroach on my personal life (I am a business owner after all).

So this year, I’ve decided to take more time-outs, when I need them! Maintaining a work-life balance is definitely something that’s really important and something which I could improve upon.

So I have a few ideas on how I can start working smarter – and therefore have more time to breathe.

These include.

  • Delegating better. Sometimes, it can be hard to hand over the reins. But I know I have a brilliant team and I should learn to trust them more.
  • Continue to build and maintain our talent pipeline. By networking and building relationships with candidates and clients, past, present and (possibly) future, it will speed the rest of our process up and we’ll have all the talent we need at our fingertips.

2. Learn more.

Now, to help me fulfil resolution number 1, I’m going to invest more time in learning new techniques and tools for recruitment and business development in general.

We already have the blog and we’re connected to a great number of recruitment professionals and thought leaders on our social media platforms, but this year I want to do even more to improve my skills.

That’s why we started a new section of the blog called: The Best Of late last year.

This will be a monthly blog where we share the best blogs and articles we found that month.

And of course, any major interesting insights and information I gather along the way will help to form the rest of my blogs anyway.

3. Organise myself.

If you’re anything like me, your inbox will be jammed full of unopened (often nonsense and spam) emails and your desktop will be almost as bad. Files everywhere!

I know where everything is… but it could be much better organised.

So I’m going to work on this over the next couple of weeks and tidy everything up!

As a side note, I’m also going to work through our own database to make sure that this is all tidy and up to date. After all GDPR is just around the corner now.

Organising myself will, of course, help me to achieve my number one resolution: working smarter and therefore giving myself more breaks when needed!

Summary

Ok, I’m fully aware that people don’t tend to stick to their New Year’s Resolutions.

But I have something great to aim for (more breaks) so I’m hoping this year, they stick.

And good luck. I believe in you!
