Manufacturing and Production

CLOSING SOON
Production Manager

We’re looking for a proper Production Manager. Someone who can lead from the front, set high standards and make sure the production plan gets delivered.

You’ll inherit an established production team with a leadership structure already in place. Your job is to tie it all together: giving people clear direction, creating accountability and ensuring production performs consistently against plan.

This isn’t a role for someone who manages production from a spreadsheet.

You’ll be visible on the shop floor, close to the operation and prepared to get your hands dirty when needed. You’ll understand what good looks like, know which numbers really matter and use them to drive better performance.

Ultimately, the production plan sits with you.

What you'll be doing

  • Taking ownership of the day-to-day production operation and delivery of the production plan
  • Leading an established team through the existing supervisory/leadership structure
  • Setting clear expectations around output, quality, safety, efficiency and standards
  • Being highly visible on the shop floor and understanding what is actually happening, not just what the numbers say
  • Establishing the right KPIs and using them to identify problems and drive action
  • Holding people accountable while developing and supporting your team
  • Tackling bottlenecks, downtime and recurring production issues
  • Working closely with planning, engineering, quality and other functions to keep production moving
  • Driving continuous improvement without losing sight of today's production requirements
  • Leading by example and creating a culture where high standards become the norm

What we're looking for

You’ll already have experience leading production in a manufacturing environment, ideally within industrial products, consumables, process manufacturing or a similarly demanding operation.

More importantly, you’ll have the right approach.

You’re hands-on without micromanaging. You know how to use an established leadership team rather than trying to do everybody’s job yourself.

You set high standards and are comfortable enforcing them. When performance slips, you address it. When something isn’t working, you get close enough to understand why.

And you’re commercially switched on about production. You know what to measure, why you're measuring it and what action to take when the numbers move in the wrong direction.

The opportunity

This is an established manufacturing operation, not a blank sheet of paper.

The people and structure are there. What we need is a Production Manager who can bring it together, raise the bar and deliver.

If you're happiest close to the shop floor, enjoy leading people and want genuine ownership of production performance, we'd like to hear from you.

General Manager

This isn't a role for someone who simply keeps a factory ticking over.

We're looking for an experienced General Manager / Plant Director / Senior Operations Leader who knows how to take ownership of an engineering operation, lead from the front and make it perform.

You'll take full responsibility for a well-established manufacturing site in Walsall, leading a team of circa 50 and owning the operation from P&L and people through to safety, quality, delivery and continuous improvement.

The business supplies engineered industrial products into demanding sectors including automotive, aerospace and general manufacturing. It needs a leader who is equally comfortable on the shop floor, around the management table and in front of senior stakeholders.

THE ROLE

You'll have genuine ownership of the site, including:

  • Full P&L and operational responsibility
  • Leadership and development of the site team
  • Driving safety, quality, delivery, cost and productivity
  • Improving operational performance through Lean / continuous improvement
  • Building stronger processes, accountability and KPI discipline
  • Identifying opportunities around capacity, efficiency, waste and cost
  • Working cross-functionally across engineering, production, quality and supply chain
  • Creating a culture where people take ownership and performance improves

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The important bit.

We need an established senior manufacturing leader from a heavy engineering or technically demanding manufacturing environment.

You'll ideally already be operating as a:

General Manager | Plant Manager | Plant Director | Operations Director | Head of Operations

You must bring:

  • Significant senior operational leadership within heavy engineering / industrial manufacturing
  • Experience leading a complete manufacturing or engineering operation
  • P&L / budget accountability
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and operational KPIs
  • A demonstrable record of improving productivity, cost, quality, delivery and safety
  • Strong Lean / CI / operational excellence credentials
  • The ability to lead managers as well as shop-floor teams
  • An Engineering or relevant technical degree
Experience within automotive, aerospace, metals, machining, fabrication, engineered components or similarly demanding manufacturing would be particularly relevant.

WHY CONSIDER IT?

This is a proper operational leadership role.

You'll have the autonomy to shape the site, develop the team and make tangible improvements to the performance of the business.

It should appeal to someone who enjoys being close enough to operations to understand what's really happening, but senior enough to change it.

Salary: up to £80,000 + package
Location: Walsall, West Midlands

If you've built your career leading engineering and manufacturing operations and you're ready to take full ownership of a site, we'd like to hear from you.
